Synopsis
Tobio Kageyama is Karasuno's setter and the other half of the fast-attack combination he built with Shouyou Hinata. In junior high his talent was undeniable, but his teammates nicknamed him the King of the Court for the wrong reasons: he demanded flawless play from everyone around him and dismissed their input entirely. It ended in open revolt during a decisive match, when his own team refused to hit his tosses and Kageyama was benched in disgrace.
That humiliation left a lasting mark. Underneath the scowling, short-tempered exterior is someone genuinely afraid of being resented again, who simply lacks the vocabulary to express frustration without sounding harsh. At Karasuno he slowly learns to trust his teammates instead of commanding them, though his rivalry with fellow setters — especially Tooru Oikawa — remains intensely personal.
His love for the sport is total and unguarded: every successful play with Hinata visibly delights him, even as he keeps working to smooth out his rough edges off the court. After graduating, Kageyama represented Japan's youth and senior national teams, played in Japan's V.League, and later joined a professional club in Italy's top division.
