Godfrey

Godfrey serves as Commander of the Vanguard within the Knights of the Blood, one of Aincrad's leading clearing guilds. Easygoing by nature, he dislikes conflict among his fellow guild members and actively works to smooth over tension, at one point deliberately pairing Kuradeel and Kirito in the same party specifically so the two men would set aside their earlier duel and get along.

That same easygoing nature has a blind spot: Godfrey is slow to read dangerous situations, and when Kuradeel's true loyalties are finally exposed, Godfrey initially mistakes his betrayal for some kind of training exercise rather than recognizing the real threat in front of him.

That misjudgment proves fatal, Kuradeel kills him without hesitation once his cover is blown, cutting short a character whose instinct for keeping the peace within the guild never extended to suspecting one of his own could be a murderer.
