Eugene

General Eugene is the head of the Salamander race's armed forces in ALfheim Online, and later leads the New Aincrad clearing army after the game's world changes. Widely regarded as the strongest player in ALfheim Online prior to the Fairy Dance Arc, he commands both respect and fear as a battlefield leader driven almost entirely by his hunger for strong opponents.

That hunger defines his duel with Kirito: what starts as a formal one-on-one meant to settle a dispute between the Salamander and Cait Sith representatives quickly escalates once Eugene realizes Kirito can withstand his attacks, and he pushes to turn the match into a fight to the death simply for the thrill of testing himself against a true equal.

In-game, Eugene is the brother of Salamander leader Lord Mortimer, a relationship presumed to carry over into real life as well, though little else about his life outside ALfheim Online is known.
