Esdeath

Esdeath is the Empire's most feared general and, later, commander of the Jaegers, an elite squad assembled to hunt down Night Raid. Wielder of the ice-manipulating Teigu Demon's Extract, she is famed across the Empire for conquests so brutal that entire tribes were wiped out under her command. Her worldview was shaped in childhood, growing up in the harsh Northern Frontier as the last survivor of the Partas Clan, raised on her father's creed that only the strong deserve to live.

Beneath the cruelty, Esdeath is fiercely loyal to those she considers her own, inspiring genuine devotion among her subordinates. Her fixation on strength eventually collides with her feelings after she becomes infatuated with Tatsumi, a member of Night Raid she captures rather than kills — an obsession that drives much of the story's central conflict between the Empire and the rebellion.
