Synopsis
Gakushu Asano is the student council president, the top student at Kunugigaoka Junior High School, and the leader of the elite Big Five. He is the son of Board Chairman Gakuho Asano and serves as Class 3-E's chief academic rival.
Gakushu looks down on anyone less intelligent than himself, which in practice means nearly the entire school, though he masks this behind a face of benevolence and a charismatic smile. Sharing his father's genius and drive, he is a highly manipulative individual determined to control everything around him, if somewhat less extreme in method than Gakuho.
After hearing rumors about the mysterious Class 3-E, Gakushu presses his father for information, only to be deflected, which only sharpens his curiosity. His complicated relationship with Gakuho Asano — a mix of rivalry, admiration, and resentment over a cold upbringing — becomes one of the defining threads of his arc throughout the series.
