Synopsis
Gakuho Asano is the board chairman of Kunugigaoka Junior High School and the father of student council president Gakushu Asano. He serves as the primary antagonist of the series' first half before evolving into a far more ambiguous ally of Class 3-E.
Gakuho's defining trait is an almost fanatical devotion to his own educational philosophy. He places its integrity above ordinary morality and is willing to take openly unscrupulous steps to preserve it, a tendency unsettling enough to make even his own son question him. He is also unafraid to get personally involved, as when he stages a punishing schoolwide exam regime during the first-term midterms.
In the past, Gakuho's teaching style closely resembled Korosensei's, until one of his students, bullied relentlessly and unable to defend himself, took his own life. Concluding that he had raised his students the wrong way, Gakuho decided to cultivate strength rather than goodness in his students, and began mastering martial arts with the same obsessive drive he once applied to pedagogy.
