Synopsis
Mai Zenin was a second-year student at Kyoto Jujutsu High and the younger twin sister of Maki Zenin, a member of the Zenin Clan mistreated much like her sister for being a girl with little natural talent for jujutsu. Unlike Maki, who chose open rebellion, Mai was willing to live quietly under the clan's thumb — until Maki's defiance forced her into training as a sorcerer too, a life she resented from the start.
Detesting the grotesque work of exorcising curses, Mai took her frustration out on the people around her, especially her rivals and her own twin, developing a snarky, crude personality that boosted her ego at others' expense. She got along far better with her Kyoto classmates than with the Tokyo students, particularly Momo Nishimiya and Kasumi Miwa, and while she never much liked Aoi Todo, she was one of the few people who could actually tolerate him.
