Alexander Volg Zangief is a charming boxer from Russia and the World Amateur Champion. In both "Hajime no Ippo" and "Hajime no Ippo: Rising", he showcases his boxing skills, initially excelling at outboxing but later adopting a fierce infighting style. After a series of losses, he returns to Russia to care for his ailing mother, only to eventually return to Japan to assist Ippo in training for an important match.
