Ryuunosuke Tanaka

Ryuunosuke Tanaka is a wing spiker for Karasuno High, regarded by teammates as the team's ace-in-the-making. Loud, hot-tempered, and never one to back down from a confrontation, Tanaka is fiercely protective of his underclassmen and has little patience for anyone who belittles others — which is exactly why he reacts so sharply whenever Kei Tsukishima's trash talk goes too far, or when someone mocks Azumane.

Once he's fired up, Tanaka becomes almost impossible to contain on the court, celebrating every big play at full volume and developing a signature habit of ripping off his shirt and spinning it overhead after scoring. Every so often, though, private doubts about his own mediocrity creep in — thoughts he brushes off almost as soon as they arrive, deciding they're not worth the time.

Even before Karasuno, Tanaka befriended a girl named Kanoka, defending her from bullying over her height and teaching her to play volleyball himself. After graduating, Tanaka became a personal trainer and married team manager Kiyoko Shimizu.
