Synopsis
Shinichi Nagata, known in ALfheim Online as Recon, is a Sylph player skilled with daggers, stealth, and dark magic, as well as a real-life classmate of Suguha Kirigaya. When Suguha asks him to teach her the basics of virtual reality gaming, he suggests ALfheim Online specifically because it rewards player skill over time investment, aware that her kendo training and studies leave her little room to spare.
Recon takes on the role of her mentor and regular party partner in the early days of her time as Leafa, guiding her through the game's mechanics and fighting alongside her as she learns the ropes. His own considerable skill with stealth-based combat makes him a capable teacher, though Suguha's dedication and natural talent eventually let her surpass him.
Beyond his in-game role, Recon harbors real feelings for Suguha, which complicates their otherwise straightforward friendship once they meet as their in-game and real-world selves.
