Levi Ackerman is captain of the Special Operations Squad within the Survey Corps and is widely known as humanity's strongest soldier. Born in the Underground City to Kuchel Ackerman, he was raised by his uncle Kenny after her death, who taught him knife skills and how to survive on the streets — training that awakened the extraordinary strength running through the Ackerman bloodline.

Obsessively clean to the point of wiping down his blood-soaked blades mid-battle, Levi is otherwise blunt, cold and unapproachable, with a dark, coarse sense of humor that unsettles most people around him. He rarely shows emotion and doesn't hesitate to provoke or insult those who irritate him, yet the soldiers under his command, including Petra Ral and Oluo Bozado, remain fiercely loyal to him.
