Before her name returns to her, Decim's assistant is known only as the black-haired woman — a former figure skater who died believing her life had lost its meaning after a knee injury ended her career. Because she arrives at Quindecim still aware that she is dead, Nona agrees to erase her memories and delay her judgment so she can work alongside Decim instead of facing a game immediately.
Sharp-tongued and quick to disagree when something feels wrong, she pushes back against the arbiters' methods more than any other human who has stayed in the bar, and her presence slowly teaches Decim to weigh emotion alongside procedure. She grows uneasy, though, once she realizes the games are designed to drag guests' darkest feelings into the open rather than simply observe them.
As her borrowed time in the afterlife runs out, her body begins to fade and her real memories resurface — the childhood spent reading with her mother, the years of skating, and the depression that ultimately led to her death. Once Decim finally judges her honestly, she is sent on to reincarnation, and he keeps a lifelike doll in her image behind the bar afterward.
