Isao Kondou is the Commander of the Shinsengumi, also known as the "Gorilla-stalker" due to his obsession with Shimura Tae. He has good friendships with Hijikata Toushirou and Okita Sougo, often using harsh methods to maintain discipline among his men. Known for his kindness, Kondou's naivety can sometimes be his weakness. He dreams of becoming Shimura Shinpachi's brother-in-law, which annoys Shinpachi.
