Synopsis
Jabbathe is a Frankish nobleman and general who appears at the very start of Vinland Saga. A short, heavyset man with cropped dark hair and an oversized head, he is leading a siege against a well-defended Frankish fortress but is steadily losing the fight. His look and name are an evident nod to Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars.
Spoiled, arrogant and greedy, Jabbathe holds an inflated opinion of himself. With his assault faltering, he is approached by Thorfinn, who carries an offer from Askeladd: a hundred fighters will join the attack in exchange for half the spoils, and if refused, they will side with the enemy instead. The nobleman agrees, though he never intends to share anything.
The fortress falls, but when Jabbathe moves to collect the plunder he discovers that Askeladd has already carried it all off, leaving the boastful commander nothing but the "glory" of victory. Despite having been losing his own battle, Jabbathe credits the win to his strategic command. Thorfinn dismissively nicknames him "Fatass." The character is voiced in Japanese by Kappei Yamaguchi, and in English by Greg Cote and J. Michael Tatum.
