Synopsis
King Harald (ハラルド王) is a supporting figure in the historical drama Vinland Saga, remembered as the first king of Norway. His army swept across the Norwegian lands, subduing them village by village, until Harald declared himself ruler over the whole realm. Once Norway was conquered, he confronted its people with a stark ultimatum: submit to his rule, or be cast out from the land forever.
He is described as a tall man with a commanding presence, wearing his honey-blond hair long and his beard braided in the same shade. Over chainmail he wore a leather tunic and a fur-trimmed cape, and he carried a sword at his side. His character is that of a ruthless conqueror, willing to impose his authority by force on those he had defeated.
By tradition Harald was known as "inn hárfagri," meaning "the fair-haired," and he was said to claim descent from the legendary Yngling clan. For a long time historians debated whether he was a real or purely legendary figure, though they now lean toward accepting that Norway's first king truly existed. In the series he appears only in the opening episode.
