Synopsis
Kenji Futakuchi is a wing spiker and ace for Date Tech High who becomes team captain after the third-years retire following the Interhigh. According to former captain Moniwa, Futakuchi is a difficult underclassman with an easygoing streak, showing little deference to his seniors and regularly clashing with the more serious-minded Kamasaki.
Futakuchi enjoys needling opponents — after blocking one of Asahi Azumane's spikes, he wryly remarks that Azumane should look more dejected about it. Underneath the provocations, though, is real attachment to the team: news of the third-years' retirement after the Interhigh loss visibly shakes him. As captain, Futakuchi grows steadily more responsible while still keeping the team's new setter, Koganegawa, in line — and now understands firsthand just how much patience his own seniors needed with him.
After graduating, Futakuchi works for an energy company while continuing to play as an outside hitter for a municipal team in Miyagi.
