Synopsis

Floki served as a commander of the Jomsvikings until the band was disbanded, and he was one of the leading Viking commanders first under Sweyn Forkbeard during the invasion of England and later under Canute. In Vinland Saga he stands out as a central antagonist, most prominently during the Eastern Expedition Arc.

It was Floki who hired Askeladd to assassinate his former comrade Thors. The pretext was a death sentence passed fifteen years earlier that supposedly still applied, but in truth Floki simply hated Thors, resenting that the man always seemed to look down on him, and wanted him dead for purely personal reasons.

Cold, ambitious and calculating, Floki would stop at nothing to make his grandson Baldr chieftain of the Jomsvikings, even though Baldr had no interest in the role. His genuine affection for the boy is arguably his only redeeming trait. He was never a distinguished warrior, owing his rank to scheming and political maneuvering, and also worked as an emissary on delicate errands. Askeladd easily overpowered him in a duel, and during the Baltic Sea war an enraged Thorfinn, having learned of Floki's hand in his father's death, cut off three of his fingers and destroyed his sword, sparing his life.

Floki once fought alongside Thors and Thorkell in the Jomsvikings. After the group dissolved, he and Baldr were cast out of Jomsborg. He is voiced in Japanese by Atsushi Ono.
