Van Fanel

Van Fanel is the prince of Fanelia and the pilot of Escaflowne, who unexpectedly finds himself on Earth battling a dragon. His life is saved by Hitomi, a schoolgirl caught in the fray. Upon returning to his kingdom, Van discovers it has been destroyed by the Zaibach Empire. He vows revenge, even when he learns that his supposedly dead elder brother, Folken, is working for the enemy. Van is bound by a blood pact with Escaflowne, making him vulnerable to injuries that the mech suffers in battle.
