Dominator

The Dominator Portable Psychological Diagnosis and Suppression System is the signature sidearm issued to Inspectors and Enforcers of the Public Safety Bureau. Rather than a conventional trigger, it relies on a live wireless link to the Sibyl System: aimed at a person, it reads their Psycho-Pass and calculates a crime coefficient in real time, and it will only fire — or even open — for the registered user it recognizes.

Depending on the target's crime coefficient, the weapon reconfigures itself into one of three modes. Non-Lethal Paralyzer, the default setting, stuns a suspect for safe custody. Lethal Eliminator activates automatically once a coefficient passes 300, transforming the weapon's lower housing before firing a blast that is almost always fatal. Destroy Decomposer, reserved for armored targets, drones, or extreme threats, vaporizes its target and its surroundings entirely, though each unit can only fire it a handful of times before depleting its charge. An upgraded Assault Dominator later expands this arsenal with a scope, extended range, and the ability to fire through walls.

In the world of Psycho-Pass, killing with a Dominator is understood as a judgment carried out by the system itself, since the weapon only fires when Sibyl grants its authorization — a distinction between personal violence and systemic judgment that the series returns to again and again.
