Synopsis
Rumiko Chie is the sole teacher at Hinamizawa School, responsible for the class that includes Keiichi Maebara and his classmates. She first appears in the story arc Onikakushi-hen, voiced by Fumiko Orikasa in Japanese and portrayed by Hitomi Miwa in the live-action films. Chie-sensei is explicitly designed as a parody of Ciel from Tsukihime, sharing not only a similar look but also the same voice actress.
Ordinarily good-natured and gentle, Chie has one striking exception to her calm temperament: she turns fiercely, almost violently passionate whenever curry or its history is disrespected, a trait that earns her the nickname "Curry Demon." She reportedly travels to India several times a year to research the dish's history and eats curry at every meal. The obsession is referenced in the theme song "Chie-Sensei no Curry Rice Rondo" and, later in the franchise, in a school curry-cooking contest where her intensity startles Keiichi and Mion Sonozaki.
She lives in the neighboring town of Okinomiya, always carries a notebook, and dresses in a simple white outfit with a red ribbon. As Hinamizawa's only teacher, Chie is present when the village is struck by the Great Hinamizawa Disaster, and in most story arcs she dies alongside many other residents.
