Synopsis
Naruko Anjou is a member of the Super Peace Busters and a childhood friend of Jinta Yadomi, Atsumu Matsuyuki, Tetsudou Hisakawa, Chiriko Tsurumi, and Meiko Honma. In front of others she treats Jinta coldly, sometimes even harshly, but underneath it she genuinely worries about him. She's easily swayed by the people around her and often goes along with her classmates even when she privately disagrees.
Naruko works at a video game store and owns a large collection of manga and games, and it's this shared interest that reconnects her with Jinta and Tetsudou. She has secretly cared for Jinta since childhood but never worked up the courage to say so, knowing how he felt about Menma. Once Menma's ghost reappears, Naruko throws herself into helping fulfil her wish, even though she initially doubts what's happening is real.
Over the course of the story Naruko eventually admits her feelings to Jinta directly, and although their relationship stays unresolved for a long time, a new closeness forms between them by the end. Her given name means ringing or chiming, while her surname Anjou combines the characters for peace and castle.
